In Madrid, the physiotherapy school in question here is the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Sports of the Universidad Europea, whose grado en Fisioterapia (four years, 240 ECTS credits) is taught on the Villaviciosa de Odón campus, southwest of the capital. The university says classes can be followed in Spanish, French or English, with a B2 level required for the French-language track. For housing, there are three options: the campus residence, a shared flat in Villaviciosa or a neighbouring town, or housing in Madrid with daily commutes.

The choice depends mostly on your budget and your tolerance for commuting. Madrid's market is the most expensive in Spain: according to idealista, the city of Madrid showed an average rent of €23.3 per square metre in August 2026, up 5.1% over a year. A room in a shared flat costs on average €605 a month in the Community of Madrid, according to the July 2026 Fotocasa index.

The three ways to live near the Universidad Europea

The campus residence

The Universidad Europea has two residences on the Villaviciosa de Odón campus, including the Xior Picasso-Velázquez residence, with a total capacity of 545 places. The university says half of its students come from elsewhere. Rooms are single or double, with a private bathroom, and the residence offers a canteen with hours adapted to classes, weekly cleaning, a 24-hour reception and a stop for the main bus lines to Villaviciosa and central Madrid. It is the simplest solution for a first year, especially if you arrive without knowing the city. Prices are not shown on the university's page: ask the booking service directly, and apply early.

A shared flat in Villaviciosa de Odón or neighbouring towns

Sharing an apartment cuts the cost significantly. According to Fotocasa, the average price of a room in the Community of Madrid went from €585 in July 2025 to €605 in July 2026, and no district of the city of Madrid offers a room below €450 on average any more. Towns on the outskirts are following very different trends: in April 2026, rents fell by 9.7% over a year in Villaviciosa de Odón, but rose by 18.9% in Móstoles, 6.4% in Pozuelo de Alarcón and 0.8% in Alcorcón. Before choosing a town, check the real journey to the campus by public transport, at the times of your classes.

Housing in Madrid

Living in the capital gives you student life and access to internship sites, but means longer journeys to Villaviciosa. Moncloa, the university district, has apartments at around €1,000 to €1,400 a month. Carabanchel, Usera and Villa de Vallecas are more affordable. In April 2026, according to Fotocasa, Moratalaz was the cheapest district in Madrid, at €17.08 per square metre, compared with €24.25 in Chamberí, the most expensive.

What budget to plan for

  • Room in a shared flat: from €500 to €800 a month, with an average of €605 in the Community of Madrid.
  • Studio: from €800 to €1,200 a month.
  • Utilities: water, electricity and gas are generally paid by the tenant, from €100 to €200 a month depending on size and season.
  • Upfront: a legal deposit (fianza) of one month's rent for an unfurnished home, sometimes an additional guarantee of one or two months.

Always compare listings per square metre and check what the advertised rent includes: utilities, internet, cleaning of common areas.

Steps before moving in

  • The NIE, the foreigner identification number, is required for most procedures: opening a bank account, electricity or internet contracts. Plan for it as soon as you arrive.
  • The lease: in Spain, housing rentals are governed by the urban leases law (LAU). For a room or a shared flat, read carefully the duration, how utilities are split and the conditions for leaving mid-year.
  • The fianza must be lodged by the landlord with the Community of Madrid, which monitors these deposits and toughened penalties in October 2026: ask for proof.
  • The empadronamiento, registration on the municipal register, is done at the town hall of your municipality of residence. It is needed for many administrative procedures.
  • Pay nothing before you have viewed the place, in person or through someone you trust, and check the landlord's identity.

When to search

Student demand peaks before the September start of term. Begin your search in spring for the residence, and four to six weeks before you arrive for a shared flat. A temporary solution for the first few weeks gives you time to view several towns before signing.
