Who can be housed by KTH, the application calendar, the SSSB queue and the budget to plan for housing near the campus in Stockholm.

Finding student housing near KTH in Stockholm depends first on your status. If you pay tuition fees for a full bachelor's or master's programme, KTH guarantees you housing for the first year, under conditions. For most other students, particularly European nationals who don't pay fees, you have to search on your own, and as early as possible.
The Stockholm rental market is tight. First-hand contracts go through a municipal queue that can exceed ten years; second-hand contracts are quickly available, but at open-market prices. In between, the student housing run by KTH and the SSSB foundation is the cheapest option.
This guide covers the housing offered by KTH, the SSSB queue, the budgets to plan for and the calendar to follow.

KTH does not house all of its students. Its KTH Housing service offers furnished housing on campus and elsewhere in Stockholm, for certain groups of students only.
For an autumn start, the form is open from 4 to 31 May. You choose four housing preferences before 31 May, then offers are sent from 1 June to the first week of July. You have 48 hours to accept or decline, and a refusal does not lead to a second offer. Contracts start on 1 August. For exchange students admitted for the spring semester, applications are open for only 7 to 10 days in early November.
KTH Housing rents at four sites: Malvinas väg, Teknikringen and Hemmet on campus, and Lappkärrsberget, ten minutes by bike or one metro stop from the campus. You'll find studios with a kitchenette and bathroom, shared apartments and corridor rooms with a private bathroom and shared kitchen. Basic furniture is provided, but not linen or tableware.
Contracts cover one or two semesters. Rent is paid monthly in advance, and subletting is forbidden. If you stay longer, you'll need to find other housing: KTH recommends joining the SSSB queue as soon as possible.
The Stockholms studentbostäder (SSSB) foundation allocates student housing according to seniority in its queue, counted in days. A few rules to know:
The earlier you register, the more days you'll have when you start looking. Register as soon as you are admitted, even if you have a place with KTH Housing for the first year.
KTH publishes the actual monthly budgets of three international students in 2026. Their housing spending gives an idea:
Their total budgets, including food, transport and leisure, range from 7,850 to 13,000 SEK per month. On the open market, a studio rents from around 8,000 SEK per month in the suburbs and between 10,000 and 15,000 SEK in central areas, such as Östermalm or Vasastan. The deposit is generally two months' rent. Before accepting an offer, check how many months the contract covers, whether electricity, heating and internet are included, whether the home is furnished and how long it takes to reach the campus.
