Finding an apartment for three, six or nine months in Angers is possible, but it is not the scenario most landlords are looking for. The default framework remains the standard lease, signed for one year if furnished and for at least three years for an unfurnished home let by a private individual. For a stay of a few months, there are three legal frameworks to know: the mobility lease (bail mobilité), the nine-month student furnished lease, and the short-term furnished let intended for passing stays.

The Angers market remains tight. According to the LocService.fr study published in February 2026, Angers is the 12th tightest large city in France, with an average rent of €601 including charges for 35.7 m², or €16.85 per square metre. Studios and T1s account for half of searches, and more than 45,000 students live in the urban area: small units go quickly, especially at the start of the academic year.

The three possible frameworks for a rental of a few months

The mobility lease: 1 to 10 months

This is the contract designed for temporary stays. It covers a furnished home and lasts 1 to 10 months, with no renewal possible. Its duration can be changed only once by an amendment, within a limit of 10 months in total. To qualify, you must, on the lease start date, be in one of these situations:

  • vocational training or higher education;
  • apprenticeship contract or internship;
  • civic service;
  • job transfer or temporary assignment as part of your work.

The mobility lease has two clear advantages for the tenant. First, the landlord is not allowed to ask for a security deposit. Second, you can leave at any time with one month's notice. Charges are paid as a flat sum with the rent. The landlord can, however, ask for a guarantor, and you can then use the Visale guarantee, including if you are a student.

The student furnished lease: 9 months

A furnished home is normally let for one year, but the term can be reduced to 9 months when the tenant is a student. This lease is not renewable: it ends at its term, without anyone needing to give notice. You can still leave before the end, with one month's notice. For a furnished home, the security deposit cannot exceed two months' rent excluding charges when rent is paid monthly.

It is often the simplest option for an academic year in Angers. LocService.fr notes that 41% of students looking for a home in Angers want a furnished one, against 31% of all applicants.

The short-term furnished let

For a few days or a few weeks, there is still the tourist furnished let: a home offered to passing guests, rented by the day, week or month, and which does not become their main residence. It is convenient for arriving in Angers and searching on the spot, but it is not a solution for several months: the home is not meant to become your main residence.

How much to budget

LocService.fr gives these average rents including charges in Angers in 2026:

  • room in a host's home: €382 for 14 m²;
  • studio: €477 for 23 m²;
  • T2: €641 for 40 m².

The average budget declared by rental applicants is €666. These figures are consistent with the ranges on the Angers page: €350 to €500 for a room, €400 to €600 for a studio, €550 to €800 for a T2. A furnished home generally rents for slightly more than an unfurnished one. Angers is not among the cities where rent levels are capped by reference rents.

Where to search depending on your stay

For a few months, location matters more than floor area: you want to be up and running quickly. The Angers page distinguishes several areas:

  • City centre and Ralliement: very well served by the tram, with some of the highest rents in the city. Convenient for a work assignment.
  • Belle-Beille: university district close to the campuses and the tram, with an abundant supply of studios and T2s. The natural choice for a semester of study.
  • Saint-Serge, Ney and Chalouère: a good balance between access to the centre, proximity to higher education institutions and rents.
  • La Doutre: old district on the left bank of the Maine, much in demand and more expensive.
  • Monplaisir and La Roseraie: among the most affordable rents, with good transport links.

When to search

According to the Angers page, the tightest period runs from July to September, at the start of the university year. Between November and March, you will face less competition. That is good news for an internship or assignment starting in winter or spring: homes freed up during the year are easier to get.

Your application and the pitfalls to avoid

For a mobility lease, prepare the document that justifies your situation: internship agreement, apprenticeship contract, training certificate or assignment order. Without a written reason in the lease, the mobility lease does not apply. For any lease, the landlord can only ask for documents on a list set by law. If they demand an unauthorised document, they risk a fine of up to €3,000.

  • No payment before signing: the landlord is not allowed to ask you for any sum of money to reserve the home.
  • Check the type of lease: a contract presented as a "bail mobilité" must state its duration, your reason and the sentence linking it to the law of 6 July 1989. Otherwise, it does not count as a mobility lease.
  • No security deposit on a mobility lease: if one is requested, that is against the law.
  • Inventory and condition report: for a furnished home, an inventory of the furniture and a condition report must be done at move-in and move-out, and attached to the lease.
  • Notice period: for both a mobility lease and a furnished lease, it is one month. Rent remains due during that month, unless a new tenant replaces you with the landlord's agreement.

A guarantee to reassure the landlord

Many applicants in Angers are students or on a mobility assignment, without large incomes. The Action Logement Visale guarantee can act as a guarantor: you give the landlord the visa that Action Logement issues to you. The public service DossierFacile also lets you present a verified application and protect your documents.
